MONONGAH, W.Va. — A Monday night house explosion in Monongah has sent one man to the hospital with severe burns, according to the Monongah Fire Department. Monongah Fire Department Chief Josh Slagle said that at around 10 p.m. Monday night, the home of Stephen Overstreet exploded, causing him extreme burns that saw him flown to the UPMC Mercy Burn Center in Pittsburgh. XXX In a Tuesday morning Facebook post, Monongah Mayor John E. Palmer shared his concern for Overstreet while expressing gratitude to the emergency services that responded to the scene. "Moments like this remind us just how important our first responders are and how quickly our communities come together when our neighbors need help," Palmer said in his post. A GoFundMe for Overstreet's recovery has been created. Slagle said that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is under investigation by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal's office.
