Import of soybean and palm oil decreases

The edible oil imports, including soyabean and palm oil, into the country during the first two months of the current financial year decreased by 99.99 per cent and 1.41 per cent, respectively, as compared to the imports of the corresponding period of the last year. The soyabean oil imports into the country during the first two months of the current financial year decreased by 99.99 per cent as compared to the imports of the corresponding period of the last year, according to the data of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. During the period from July to August 2026, about 3 metric tons of soyabean valued at $4,000 were imported, as compared to the imports of 39,039 metric tons worth $42.778 million in the same period of the last year. Meanwhile, the palm oil imports into the country during the period under review also went down by 1.41 per cent and it was recorded at 528,206 metric tons valued at $631.057 million as against the imports of 609,966 metric tons worth $640.050 million in the same period of the last year. In the last two months, the pulse imports into the country also decreased by 23.84 per cent, as it was recorded at 179,530 metric tons costing $112.273 million, as compared to the imports of 220,959 metric tons worth $147.418 million of the same period of the last year. Food group exports from the country during the first two months of the current financial year grew by 7.67 per cent as compared to exports of the corresponding period of the last year. During the period from July-August 2026, food commodities worth $833.023 million were exported as compared to the exports of $773.644 million in the same period of the last year. On the other hand, food group imports into the country during the first two months of the current financial year grew by 2.23 per cent as against the imports of the same period of the last year. During the period from July to August 2026, different food commodities costing $1.503 billion were imported as compared to imports of $1.470 billion in the same period of the last year.
