Guglielmo Vicario lifts lid on Tottenham exit as Roberto De Zerbi verdict issued

Guglielmo Vicario has revealed that there were 'several reasons' behind his decision to leave Tottenham and return to Serie A. The Italian's departure from north London was mooted for some time as Roberto De Zerbi planned a thorough overhaul of his squad. He joined Juventus on loan with an option to buy in late August, with Antonin Kinsky promoted to No1. He remains under contract with Tottenham until 2028, though, and may return at the end of this campaign. Speaking to Sky Italy this week, though, he suggested he had been pushed to leave the club by some kind of behind-closed-doors event. Keeping his cards close to his chest, he explained: 'There have been some dynamics that have not aligned, probably for several reasons that make no sense to mention now.' He was quick to clarify, though, that he had maintained a positive relationship with his countryman De Zerbi, despite the fact he never made an appearance under hom. Of the pair's relationship, Vicario continued: 'Fantastic, from the first day. I thank him, I did it personally the day I signed with Juventus. With me, he was a real person, direct and above all, a man of his word. 'He gave me the opportunity to take this step that I had in mind. He supported me, and I will always be grateful to him.' Vicario has made a bright start to the Serie A season, returning to his home nation for the first time since leaving Empoli in 2023. He has kept two clean sheets in three appearances, denying Frosinone and Parma goals before drawing 1-1 with AC Milan in his most recent outing.
