The event, themed 'Explaining the Grey Areas of State Policing: The Case, The Strategy, The Operations, and The Framework', will take place at the Abuja Continental Hotel, Abuja. The launch is expected to bring together political leaders, governors, lawmakers, security professionals, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to discuss the proposed decentralisation of policing in Nigeria. Published by Inspire Media Services Limited, the book examines the constitutional, institutional, financial and operational considerations surrounding state police, amid persistent security challenges across the country. Other dignitaries expected at the event include Godswill Akpabio, the senate president; Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house of representatives; George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation; Tunji Disu, inspector-general of police; and Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara and chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, as well as Timi Guwor, speaker of the Delta state house of assembly and chairman of the conference of speakers of state legislatures of Nigeria, are also expected to attend. According to the organisers, the event will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to examine questions around the constitutionality, funding, accountability, operational control and oversight of state police. The panel will feature Onyibe, Lucky Irabor, former chief of defence staff; Anthony Kila, professor of strategy and author of the book's foreword; and Dubem Moghalu, special assistant to the president on research and planning. The event is also expected to attract representatives of key security, safety, and socio-economic intervention agencies and organisations.
