St Albans Christmas Day arson victim bravely speaks out

The woman, in her 20s, described the emotional toll of the arson at her Hatfield Road home on December 25 last year. The fire caused the woman 'extreme psychological distress' and destroyed personal belongings and important documents, the court heard. 'I came to the United Kingdom with dreams, plans and ambitions,' she began. "I left my home, crossed continents, spent a significant amount of money and moved away from my family to build a future for myself. "As the youngest member of my family, I had always been surrounded by love, support, and security. What happened to me changed all of that." Khaqan Chaudhary of St Albans was sentenced for the attack "I cannot forgive what was done to me," she added. "My life was turned upside down. "The fire did not just destroy my belongings; it destroyed my sense of stability, safety, and peace of mind. "Important possessions, documents, and personal items were lost, but the emotional and psychological damage goes far beyond material things." Khaqan Chaudhary, 43, of Sandridge Road, St Albans, was sentenced to four years in prison at St Albans Crown Court on September 2 after pleading guilty to arson with recklessness to endanger life. He was also given a 10-year restraining order protecting the victim. The woman escaped the blaze without injury.
