How the NMT rules might change in 2027

The Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment advocates maintaining the current list and number of subjects for the national multi-subject test in 2027. However, the testing procedure itself may change. According to Tetyana Vakulenko, director of the UCEQ, the mandatory subjects of Ukrainian language and mathematics assess learning ability, while the history of Ukraine shapes students' worldview and helps them distinguish manipulative information from Russia, while the elective subject links the school curriculum to a future major at a higher education institution. She emphasized that shifting the focus solely to required subjects or eliminating the elective subject would be detrimental to the educational process. At the same time, the center stated that it is procedurally and logistically ready to implement a two-day testing model; however, its implementation depends on a government decision and the assessment of security and logistical risks. In particular, switching to a two-day format would complicate the already difficult travel to temporary testing centers for applicants from temporarily occupied territories, active combat zones, and for children currently abroad in countries with logistical challenges. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a comment by Tetyana Vakulenko, director of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment. The Verkhovna Rada proposes retaining four subjects for the 2027 National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT-2027) .
