For as long as I can remember, I've lived with one foot in the next room. Even when I arrive somewhere beautiful, a gentle yet restless engine keeps humming in the background of my thoughts: 'What's next? Is this it? Am I on track?' My instinct has always been to chase the feeling of having arrived. I wanted to lock down the future so I could finally relax into the present. Then… I walked into a bathroom in a coffee shop in Bali. But let me tell you what happened first. You guys know this. I had just moved from Bangkok. And Bangkok waselectric. It felt like home in a way I hadn't expected - like I'd arrived at the version of myself I'd been building toward. I found my routines, my people, my rhythm. I felt genuinely, solidly present there. And then I chose to leave. To come to Bali. To trust the next thing. What I didn't expect was the wobble. The first accommodation I booked turned out to be deep in the rice fields. Beautiful in theory. In practice - mosquitoes in my bedroom at night, my nervous system immediately on high alert(yes I grew up in a city!). I lay there asking myself the questions that come when the ground isn't solid yet: 'Did I make a mistake? Will I find my routines here the way I did in Bangkok? Will I meet people the way I did there? Is Bangkok actually where I was supposed to stay?' (and let me tell you: my ADHD brain amplifies the intensity of those thoughts A LOT) So I decided to switch accommodation. Paid double, which felt ridiculous for a few mosquitoes. But I kept coming back to one thing:I deserve peace of mind. Money is just money. That decision - small, slightly expensive, completely right - was the first moment I chose myself in Bali. The next morning I went to Pilates. Then a walk on the beach. Then a hairdresser. Small things, though what a blessing to be able to do them. And then I sat down in a coffee shop in Canggu. And something in my body just... landed. It wasn't a thought, nor was it a decision. A feeling, I'd say - the kind that you just deeplyfeel. And I felt it settle somewhere inside my sould, and said to myself, without planning to: I see my whole life here. It feels like I've always been here. Like I belong. Like this is exactly how life was always meant to feel. Then - mundane plot twist - I got up to use the bathroom. But right there, written right across the mirror was a single sentence: You are exactly where you need to be. I froze. Not because the line was clever, (let's be honest - it's cliche at this point) but because my body had just said the same thing - and here it was, written on a mirror, mirroring it to me the exact moment I'd finally chosen to trust. This is what I keep thinking about. The mirror didn't appear when I was lying in the rice field accommodation questioning everything. It didn't appear when I was asking if Bangkok was where I should have stayed. It didn't appear to convince me. It appearedafter. After the pilates class and the beach walk and the hairdresser. After I paid double for peace of mind. After I sat down in a coffee shop and let the feeling arrive in my body without trying to think my way into it. Because that's what faith actually is. The reassurance can't come before the trust - because then what would the trust be for? Signs of confirmation are not what move you forward. They are what meet you after you've already moved. If you are in a transition right now - if the ground feels unfamiliar, if you're lying awake asking whether you made the right choice, if the place you chose doesn't feel like home yet - this is not a sign that you were wrong. This is just what the in-between feels like before it becomes the ground. The mirror was never a fortune cookie. It was an echo. For years, I thought alignment was something you stumbled into - a destination that announces itself with total certainty. Now I see that certainty is something you extend to yourself first. You don't wait for the new life to feel familiar before you arrive; you arrive, and the familiar meets you there. And I am here. In this season. Still arriving, still landing, still finding my rhythm. And the ground is solid because I finally stopped shaking. - Monika πŸ”† PS The mosquitoes were a gift, actually. They moved me to a place I love. And they made me choose myself in such a funny way. Sometimes things feel random, but they really never are. These mosquitoes forced me to recognize what I deserve once again.
