Electricity prices may rise by Rs1.73 per unit

Electricity consumers across Pakistan could face another increase in power tariffs as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has sought a Rs1.73 per unit hike under the monthly fuel price adjustment for August. If approved, the proposed increase could place an additional financial burden of around Rs29 billion on electricity consumers across the country. According to sources, the CPPA has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking an increase of Rs1.73 per unit in electricity prices. The request has been made under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism for August. NEPRA will review the request during a hearing scheduled for September 29. Consumers could face Rs29bn burden If NEPRA approves the CPPA's request, the proposed increase would result in an estimated financial burden of approximately Rs29 billion on consumers. The adjustment would affect electricity consumers across the country, adding to the cost of power bills if the regulator grants the requested increase.
