Man Charged After Unprovoked Winnipeg Bus Stop Assault

An 18-year-old man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a 67-year-old woman at a Winnipeg bus stop earlier this summer. The woman contacted police just before 3:30 p.m. on August 20 to report the assault, which had occurred earlier in the month. Police said she was sitting on a bench waiting at a bus stop at Portage Avenue and Craig Street when a man approached and laid down on the bench beside her. She turned away and was minding her own business when the man allegedly assaulted her by kicking and punching her. The woman attempted to flee by boarding a transit bus. The suspect followed but was kicked off the bus a short time later for causing trouble. The victim sustained injuries to her upper body that didn't require medical attention. Officers identified a suspect and arrested him on Monday afternoon at a home in the 200 block of Margaret Street. Davis Miles has been charged with assault. He remains in custody.
