Austin Peay opened the weekend at the Golden Eagle Invitational with a gritty five-set fight against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 4 in Cookeville. The Governors fell 3-2 (25-15, 25-23, 18-25, 22-25, 14-16) in a match that came down to the final points of the deciding set. APSU came out hot, taking the first two sets, but Tennessee Tech answered with three straight to grab the win. The Governors put up 48 kills on 152 attempts for a .158 hitting percentage, dished out 43 assists and added seven aces and 13 blocks. APSU out-dug Tech 71-65 but couldn't convert enough key swings in the final three sets. Tennessee Tech finished with 63 kills and 54 assists, using a balanced attack to complete the comeback.
