A lawsuit seeking to restore English on communication sent to voters ahead of the elections next month was filed in the Quebec Superior Court Tuesday. The suit comes after Élections Québec announced last week that it will only mail out the documents in French in order to comply with Bill 96 after its request for an exemption was denied. The agency said those seeking to access elections-related information in English must go to its website directly or use the QR code on the French-only printed documents. The decision was widely criticized as disproportionately affecting non-French speakers and seniors who may have difficulty accessing the digital alternatives. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
