Miley Cyrus asks fans to groove on to new party anthem 'Bass Persuades' Miley is back – and she wants you off your phone and on the dance floor. The Grammy winner, 33, dropped Bass Persuades on September 3, the lead single from her 10th album of the same name. The track comes with a music video directed by longtime collaborator Mert Alas. For this era, she's stripping it down to only 'Miley.' Bass Persuades blends 80's synths with a dance-pop beat and a clear message: put the screens down. The song calls out phone addiction and modern noise, with 'the kids don't want to dance' as the central refrain before she urges listeners to 'surrender to the night.' She also sings about being 'glued' to a telephone screen and name-checks missing MTV, mixing nostalgia with a present-day warning. The video follows suit. It opens with Miley in a leather hat, black bralette and slacks, then shifts to a bralette, high-waisted underwear, stockings and heels with a leather jacket and gloves. The choreography builds until she takes the party into the streets with a crowd of dancers behind her. The album title is about music's hold on us. 'Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong,' Cyrus wrote on Instagram September 1. 'Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That's what the title means to me. Thank you for being a part of making my wildest dreams come true. I sincerely hope you love this album. Miley.' She calls the record a love story, but 'love stories are never one-dimensional. They're always layered.' She added that 'A peaceful kind of love has become a theme across my last three records… Once your relationship with yourself changes, every relationship around you changes too. I think this record celebrates both of those equally.' Miley, who is engaged to Maxx Morando, will play the Hollywood Bowl October 16 and 18.. Bass Persuades is out September 18 via Atlantic.
