Nashik: The local crime branch (LCB) of Nandurbar police seized 443 kg of illegally cultivated ganja valued at Rs2.2 crore in Ghatli village under the jurisdiction of Dhadgaon police station. The police have arrested one person from the spot, while another accused managed to flee. Acting on the directives from Nandurbar superintendent of police Ashwini Sanap to curb illegal drugs, weapons and liquor trafficking, LCB inspector Hemant Patil received confidential information on Monday that cannabis was being secretly cultivated at a farm in Ghatli village. Subsequently, Patil, under the guidance of senior officers, immediately dispatched a team to raid the specified location. Upon searching the farm, the team discovered full-grown cannabis plants illegally intercropped between other crops. The arrested accused has been identified as Shailesh Shankar Pawara, a resident of Ghatli village, Dhadgaon. Patil said that the accused were growing the cannabis over a huge area. 'The process of uprooting the cannabis plants continued till 11pm,' he said. A case has been registered against both the accused under the relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
