Downing Street said Burnham and Trump agreed on the need to continue working towards a ceasefire that would prevent further loss of life. The latest diplomatic effort follows the meetings between Witkoff and Kushner and the Russian and Ukrainian leaders. The Kremlin said Monday that Russia does not rule out renewed trilateral talks involving Moscow, Kyiv and Washington, although it said it was too early to discuss a venue or exact dates. No new ceasefire agreement was announced following the Burnham-Trump call. The discussions come as Washington attempts to build on its latest contacts with Moscow and Kyiv and bring the two sides closer to renewed negotiations. Burnham and Trump also discussed the Middle East during Monday's call. The British prime minister stressed the importance of a two-state solution, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon, according to Downing Street. The leaders agreed to speak again soon, according to the Downing Street readout.
