THE Federal Government (FG) will commence rehabilitation work on the damaged expansion joints of the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway tomorrow, September 8, 2026. The announcement was contained in a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, yesterday, confirming an earlier notice from the Federal Ministry of Works. The repair was initially scheduled to begin in August but was postponed to allow authorities to review the traffic management plan following concerns from the public over the short notice and potential impact on traffic. The two-week rehabilitation, ordered by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, involves replacing deteriorated expansion joints on the busy bridge. The intervention is aimed at improving road safety, strengthening the structure and ensuring smoother traffic movement along the corridor. The repair is expected to run until September 22. The Lagos State Government has urged motorists using the route to plan their journeys ahead and allow extra travel time during the construction period. To reduce disruption, authorities said only one half of the affected section will be closed at a time, while motorists will use the remaining half on an alternating basis. The government appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials to ensure that the rehabilitation is completed within the scheduled two-week period.
