Chattanooga woman arrested in AL for hit-and-run, police chase in stolen truck

A Chattanooga woman was arrested in Scottsboro, Alabama, for a hit-and-run crash and running from police in a stolen pickup truck. Scottsboro Police Department officers responded to a hit-and-run involving a black Chevrolet Avalanche near the local Walmart on September 5. They say the suspect struck another vehicle and fled. A Scottsboro officer found the suspect vehicle in the area and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop. The pursuit went through Micah Way and Veterans Drive and then onto Highway 72 eastbound, police say. Police identified the suspect as 30-year-old Chattanooga woman Latasha Renee Sexton. Sexton drove recklessly, ran a red light, and sped over 100 mph, according to Scottsboro Police. They say she nearly struck several other vehicles before an officer could deploy spike strips to stop her in Stevenson, Alabama. Scottsboro Police then took Sexton into custody and learned the Chevrolet she was driving was reported stolen out of Chattanooga. Inside the truck, police say they found marijuana, multiple vehicle keys, three Tennessee license plates and prescription medications. Sexton originally gave officers a fake name and date of birth, but they eventually confirmed her identity. During her booking, police believe Sexton was trying to conceal marijuana inside a plastic bag in her mouth. Sexton now faces the following charges.
