Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has said that Pakistan would have to move beyond traditional economic thinking to become a $1 trillion economy and raise exports above $100 billion by 2035. Addressing an auto industry event in Lahore, Ahsan Iqbal said that exports of rice and traditional textiles alone would not be enough to meet the $100 billion export target. He said that Pakistan would need to develop non-traditional sectors and promote engineering and manufacturing to strengthen the economy. The minister also said that increasing exports was essential to achieving the $1 trillion economy target. He called for greater focus on new sectors to boost exports beyond $100 billion.
