In Chisinau, law enforcement officials detained a 49-year-old Azerbaijani citizen suspected of gathering information about military facilities in Moldova and U.S. facilities on its territory for Russian intelligence agencies. According to the investigation, the detainee also planned to carry out sabotage operations on the territory of Moldova and Ukraine. Law enforcement agencies began monitoring the suspect in August after receiving information about his possible recruitment by individuals working for the FSB. During searches of the suspect's premises, a cell phone was seized; an examination of the phone confirmed contacts with a person who identified himself as an FSB officer and acted as a coordinator. The man has been remanded in custody for 30 days; if convicted, he faces two to five years in prison. This was reported by TV8.
