Date set for Forest stadium expansion plan meeting

Plans to expand Nottingham Forest's home ground will be discussed at a council meeting later this month. Rushcliffe Borough Council's planning committee will meet from 18:00 BST on 16 September to consider applications from the club on proposed amendments to the City Ground. It comes days after MPs in Nottingham issued a joint statement backing development of the stadium. The public meeting will only deal with the applications relating to the stadium, and is expected to last "at least two hours", the council said. In June last year, the planning committee unanimously granted full planning permission to increase the City Ground's overall capacity to 35,000, which was followed in January by the club submitting another set of applications that could take the capacity to more than 50,000. The applications consist of a bid for full planning permission to redevelop the Peter Taylor Stand and Trent End, as well as for "demolition of existing buildings/structures", and outline planning permission to redevelop the Brian Clough Stand. Rushcliffe's planning officers have recommended councillors on the committee approve the applications, subject to conditions. In their joint statement backing the application, Nottingham East MP Nadia Whittome, Nottingham North and Kimberley MP Alex Norris and Nottingham South MP Lilian Greenwood said: "This is a historic opportunity to celebrate and preserve our city's proud heritage as home to a world-famous club, while boosting our local economy and creating well-paid, unionised jobs."
