Those selections were drawn at random from over 20.8 million qualified entries submitted during the 2024 registration window. The programme makes up to 55,000 immigrant visas available each year, though the effective ceiling for DV-2026 was trimmed to roughly 51,850 following statutory deductions. Being chosen does not automatically secure a Green Card or an immigrant visa. Applicants must still complete the full immigration process, satisfy all eligibility requirements and pass the required interviews and screening procedures. The State Department requires that principal applicants demonstrate either a qualifying secondary school education or an equivalent qualification, or specific work experience that meets the programme's criteria. There is also a firm deadline. Any DV-2026 applicant who has not received their visa or adjustment of status by September 30, 2026 loses all benefit from their selection in this cycle.
