WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature for iPhone users that makes pinned messages easier to notice. The messaging app can now send a notification when someone pins a message in an individual or group chat. The notification includes the pinned message itself, so users can see its content without opening the conversation. This can be especially useful in busy group chats where important messages can easily get buried under new conversations. According to WABetaInfo, the feature is available in WhatsApp for iOS version 26.31.74 on the App Store. However, the rollout is gradual, so it may not be available to every iPhone user yet. When someone pins a message, WhatsApp sends a notification with the label 'Pinned:' followed by the message content. Users can read the preview directly from the notification. If they tap the alert, WhatsApp opens the relevant chat and takes them directly to the pinned message. This saves users from scrolling through a long conversation to find the information. The feature works in both individual chats and group conversations. It could be particularly helpful for groups where administrators regularly pin announcements, schedules, important updates or other information. There is one limitation. Pinned message notifications are currently only sent for chats that are not muted. If a user has muted a group or conversation, WhatsApp will not send an alert when a message is pinned there. The new iOS feature follows a similar rollout on Android. WhatsApp previously introduced pinned message notifications for Android users, giving them the ability to receive alerts when a message was pinned. The behavior is largely the same on both platforms. Users receive a notification showing the pinned message, and tapping the alert takes them directly to it in the conversation. The company is expected to expand the rollout to more accounts over the coming weeks. Users who have installed the latest WhatsApp update can check their notifications to see whether the feature has reached their account. If it is not available yet, they may need to wait until the wider rollout reaches their device. The update makes pinned messages more useful by ensuring that users can quickly know when important information has been highlighted in a chat. It also reduces the chances of missing announcements simply because someone did not open the conversation at the right time.
