City of San Marcos relaunches e-scooter program

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Electric scooters are back on San Marcos streets. During the San Marcos City Council's meeting on Aug. 18, members approved a new contract with Lime, bringing 150 dockless e-scooters to town. The city said the program, which launched on Sept. 1, will give people another way to get around while helping reduce traffic and improve air quality. San Marcos previously had an e-scooter program with a different operator that discontinued services in the city. More in Local The scooters will be 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Riders must be 18 years old or older to use them. The scooters can be found in the downtown area, on the Texas State University campus and on the east side of Interstate 35, including around Aquarena Springs and the Blanco Gardens neighborhood. I-35 and natural areas, including greenbelts and riverfront areas, are no-ride zones. Parking isn't allowed within 10 feet of an ADA ramp or near the San Marcos River. The city said discounted rides will be available for eligible riders through Lime Access. Riders can apply here. To qualify for the discounted rate, riders must be enrolled in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); Women, Infants and Children (WIC); National School Lunch Program; Medicaid; Social Security supplemental income; federal, local or state-subsidized housing; or be a Pell Grant recipient.
