PA speaker calls for stronger healthcare system

LAHORE - Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has said there is a need for a strong healthcare system, with special focus on research, professional expertise and the views of medical specialists. He said this while addressing CLINEXUS '26, a gathering of medical students held at a local medical college on Friday. The speaker said medical education should not be confined to textbooks and degrees. It should also equip students with research skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities and a strong sense of professional responsibility. Medical colleges and universities could serve as important centres of research in the healthcare sector. Pakistan, he added, must move beyond being a consumer of medical knowledge and focus on research and innovation aimed at addressing its own healthcare challenges. He said addressing complex healthcare challenges required effective coordination among the government, medical professionals, educational institutions and administrators. He urged young people to study healthcare systems in Pakistan and other countries, understand the reforms being introduced in different parts of the world, and contribute to improving the country's health system through research. He also stressed the need to improve access to quality medical education and healthcare facilities in remote and underserved areas. Addressing the students, he encouraged them to set ambitious goals and pursue them through hard work and dedication. Young doctors, he said, should use their knowledge and abilities not only for personal success but also for the service of the country and humanity.
