By Tyler Rampersaud – September 08, 2026 Polestar Confirms New Formula 2030 Concept Car In the United States, Polestar will not be able to sell new vehicles as of the 2027 model year, but the brand has announced that it will remain committed to its current customers with its service network and warranty commitments, while also selling cars from model years before 2027. However, the brand is still active across the globe and is continuing what it calls its 'largest model offensive yet' in the coming years. That includes the introduction of the Polestar 5 grand tourer to the market, as well as the new Polestar 4 SUV, a new Polestar 7 model, and a new generation of its inaugural BEV model, the Polestar 2. Ahead of that launch, which is planned for 2027, Polestar has confirmed a new concept car, Formula 2030, which is part of a wider 2030 strategy for the manufacturer. The design of the Formula 2030 concept will preview a new design language for Polestar, spearheaded by Philipp Römers. Using several of the touches and iconic features seen in the Polestar lineup thus far, the new design language will be seen in the production Polestar 7 and the new Polestar 2. About the new concept, Philipp Römers commented, 'Polestar's design and brand is already so strong, it was obvious we needed a bold evolution not revolution of what came before. The next few years are set to be exciting for Polestar, as the brand is preparing for what it calls its largest model offensive yet, but other exciting developments are happening now with the Swedish electric luxury car manufacturer and its models, like the launch of in-car Google Gemini. The advanced AI model from Google will be making its way into Polestar vehicles with Google built in as soon as today, if those vehicles are located in the US and have their language set to US English. An upgrade to the existing Google Assistant already featured in Polestar vehicles, the new Google Gemini AI model promises to transform the driving experience, allowing drivers to give the system commands in a conversational manner. The system understands context and multi-turn dialogue, and will ask follow-up questions, and understand multiple commands in one sentence. In addition, Gemini Live allows drivers to activate a hands-free conversation tool to help brainstorm any manner of ideas. Also able to break down language barriers, drivers can, for example, dictate a text in English to Gemini, and then ask it to translate that text in any supported language before sending it. Available on all models besides the Polestar 1, the new Google Gemini update requires no additional hardware, and eligible drivers will see a pop-up on their center display asking whether or not to opt into Google Gemini. Those are the Polestar 5, a performance-oriented four-door grand tourer that is launching this year, along with a new variant of the Polestar 4, the next generation of the Polestar 2 in 2027, and the Polestar 7 in 2028. The first quarter of 2026 saw record-breaking sales success for Polestar, but the full-year results for 2025 have also been reported, showing a trajectory of success and growth for the Swedish EV manufacturer. Thanks to its rapidly evolving electric luxury car lineup, Polestar's retail sales volumes have increased by 34 percent year-on-year, with revenues for the year increasing by 50 percent, jumping over a billion dollars from $2.034 billion to $3.058 billion. As the manufacturer begins to financially blossom, it is preparing for the largest model offensive in its history with the four new cars that will launch in the next three years. It does so with unique approaches, however, including transparency around its approaches to environmental sustainability, a signature Scandinavian design aesthetic, and a promise to rapidly introduce new models, with the Polestar 5 four-door grand tourer being launched, the Polestar 6 roadster on the horizon, and the Polestar 7 compact SUV coming soon. As the brand continues to grow, the Polestar 2 is also going to have a sequel, and along with many recent announcements, Polestar has started 2026 on a high note, reporting its highest first-quarter retail sales results ever at the end of the first quarter of 2026. With a total of 13,126 cars sold, the result represents a 7-percent growth on 2025's first-quarter number, and Polestar says that the improvement comes thanks to an increased number of retail sales points since then. There are 230 now, 50 percent more than the 154 that were in operation just a year ago. As 2026 continues, Polestar plans to have 250 retail sales points by the end of the year, marking a significant expansion of the brand's sales network. If it reaches that goal, Polestar will have increased its sales network by 20 percent compared to its number at the end of 2025. However, environmental impact comes from more than just emissions, and even electric vehicles can create a significant carbon footprint through their manufacturing processes, materials, and logistics. Polestar, the young Scandinavian manufacturer of electric luxury cars, is committed not only to end-to-end sustainability but also to being transparent about its approach to environmental sustainability. As the new Polestar 5, the brand's luxury performance four-door grand tourer EV, enters the market, Polestar has published its cradle-to-gate carbon footprint through a full Life Cycle Assessment for the model, as Polestar has done for its entire lineup. For the Polestar 5, the carbon footprint is 23.8 tCO₂e, all the way from the raw materials to its delivery to the customer. Citing raw materials as the most significant avenue through which to reduce emissions, Polestar uses 13 percent recycled aluminum for the 5, and 83 percent of the aluminum comes from smelters that are powered with renewable electricity, reducing the carbon footprint of the 5 by 14 tCO₂e per car compared to conventional aluminum sourcing methods. In addition, the facilities where the Polestar 5 is produced, as well as the battery materials, operate on renewable electricity, while the use of a flax-based alternative to carbon fiber called ampliTex™, Econyl carpets made from recycled materials, and an available Bridge of Weir leather upholstery with chrome-free tanning that is sourced as a by-product of the food industry all contribute to a reduced carbon footprint for the luxury performance grand tourer. In that endeavor, Google has been a longstanding partner of Polestar regarding its in-car technology, and one of the recent chapters of that partnership has been launching Google Maps AI-powered live lane guidance for the Polestar 4. Now, Polestar is going to introduce Google's Gemini in all of its models. An upgrade from Google Assistant, Gemini is an AI voice assistant that enables users to have more natural conversations, eliminating the need for specific commands and making the system feel more intuitive and user-friendly.
