Man arrested in New Orleans faces Assumption Parish charges tied to bank fraud

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Chalmette man who was arrested by New Orleans police over the summer faces charges related to financial crimes in Assumption Parish. Nelson Encalade III, 50, was arrested in New Orleans on July 29 before he was released into the custody of the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office on Sept. 4. Encalade was booked in Assumption Parish on charges of two counts of bank fraud, forgery and access device fraud and one count each of identity theft, theft valued at $4,170.21 and monetary instrument abuse. He is accused of using fraudulent checks to steal money from a Belle Rose business checking account on Nov. 2, 2023. The sheriff's office stated that investigators learned that two fraudulent checks had been cashed at two financial institutions on the same day in October 2023.
