Hound boys 7th at loaded Silver Streak

SPORTS BRIEFS Posted Tuesday, September 8, 2026 11:34 am GALESBURG – The Fort Madison boys cross country team captured 7th at the loaded 16-team Silver Streak XC Invitational at Galesburg's Lake Storey Saturday. Hunter Wiegand ran to a season's best 17:81.70 for 21st place overall anchoring the Bloodhounds 229 points. The Lady Hounds were missing multiple runners and didn't factor into the team scoring, but had several runners led by Jordyn Marshall and her 22:10.41 which was also a 21st-place finish for the girls. Eloise Lamb ran a personal best 22:20.22 for 24th place overall. Addison Pezley ran a 24:24.97 good for 46th overall. Erica Richers rounded out the Lady Hounds runners with a time of 24:52.27 for 49th overall. On the boys side, finishing behind Wiegand was Oliver Wiese 51st overall and 45th in team scoring with a 18:39.90. Jacob Walker was close behind with an 18:57.21 (55/48), followed by Colton Tripp's 19:27.79 (58/50), and Zach Hermes rounding out the scoring runners with a 20:06.30 (75/65). Other runners for the Hounds varsity were Colby Hardin 23:14.03, Gianni Bagby 23:16.31, Jaxon Pech 23:32.60, and Kian Koering 26:10.89. MIDLAND – The Fort Madison Lady Hounds went 2-1 in pool play Saturday and then lost in the first round of bracket play to North Cedar 13-21, 16-21.The girls beak Cal-Wheatland 2-0 and Midland 2-0 before falling to Cascade 1-2 in pool play.Lyla Smith had 16 kills and six aces on the day. Natalee Nelson was also in double figures in kills with a dozen and three aces. Jordyn Grisham kept things active in the frontcourt with 35 assists and was busy in the backcourt as well with 24 digs. Kylie Lumino was right behind with 22 digs.The Hounds move to 6-6 overall and host Burlington, which dropped out of the Class 4A top 15 this week. The Grayhounds stand at 9-7 overall. Both teams are 1-0 in Southeast Conference play.
