Naperville News Digest: Cress Creek Garden Club holding fundraiser; new playgrounds opening at Fox Hill, Queensbury parks

Naperville's Cress Creek Garden Club will hosts its 48th annual fundraiser, 'The Glow of Giving Hearts,' from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at the Bolingbrook Golf Club, 2001 Rodeo Drive, Bolingbrook. The event features lunch, a silent auction, a bakery auction, sweet shop, cash raffle, wine raffle and more, organizers said. Tickets are $65 and go on sale Saturday, Sept. 12, at cresscreekgardenclub.org. Proceeds support the garden club's philanthropic activities. This year, the club donated $15,000 in scholarships and $25,000 to charitable organizations. The club also plants and maintains various Naperville gardens, including Paw Paw Garden at Naper Settlement, Veterans Garden, Blue Star Marker Garden, and the garden and planters at the DuPage Children's Museum and Trinity House. Club members also offer garden therapy at St. Patrick's Residence. Naperville Park District will hold ribbon-cutting ceremonies Tuesday, Sept. 15, for two newly renovated playgrounds. The first event will be at 4:30 p.m. at Fox Hill Greens, 1635 Brookdale Road. It will be followed by a similar ceremony at 5 p.m. at Queensbury Greens, 1520 Brookdale Road. Both parks received upgraded seating, additional picnic tables and a larger picnic shelter, a news release said. The new playground equipment at Fox Hill includes a Topsy Turny Spinner and Tidal Wave Climber, the release said. Queensbury Greens was equipped with a rock-climbing wall, spinner and a zipline. Light refreshments will be served at both, the release said. In the event of inclement weather, the dates will be rescheduled. Magical Starlight Theatre auditions for children and adults for January's production of 'Anastasia' will be held Sept. 26-27 at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, 305 W. Jackson Ave., Naperville. All interested actors should prepare a vocal piece and a monologue from the script, a Naperville Park District news release said. There will also be a dance audition. Audition times for all ages are 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Audition time slots can be found at www.magicalstarlight.org/auditions, but walk-ups are also welcome. Performances will take place in January at Naperville Central High School. U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, D-Naperville, will host mobile office hours at libraries throughout the 11th District, including one from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave., Naperville. Constituents can meet with members of Foster's staff, who will answer questions and connect them with resources and services, his office said. Other hours will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the White Oak Library District, 201 W.
