Belize @45: Magical History tour brings National history to San Ignacio By Zoila Palma: The Belize @45 Magical History Tour made its way to San Ignacio Town, Cayo District, bringing students, community leaders and residents together for discussions on Belize's history, the struggle for independence and the country's ongoing process of decolonization. The tour is being led by the Institute for Social & Cultural Research (ISCR-NICH) in partnership with historian Dr. Assad Shoman. The initiative aims to encourage Belizeans, particularly young people, to critically examine the events, struggles and diverse perspectives that have shaped the nation's journey to independence. On September 3, Dr. Shoman met with students at Sacred Heart College, where he facilitated thought-provoking discussions on Belize's history and encouraged students to examine the stories and experiences that have influenced the country's development. Students and representatives from Eden SDA High School and St. Ignatius High School also participated in the discussions. The engagement continued that evening at the San Ignacio & Santa Elena House of Culture, where community leaders and residents gathered for a public forum. Participants engaged in discussions and shared perspectives on Belize's historical journey, creating an opportunity for meaningful reflection beyond the classroom. The Magical History Tour will be hosted in Belize City today as part of Belize's 45th Independence celebrations.
