The Great Rift Valley, a major geographical feature stretching across eastern Africa, is home to numerous lakes. In Kenya, the Kenya Lake System in the Great Rift Valley, comprising Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru and Lake Elementaita, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011. The lakes are important feeding grounds for flamingos and provide habitats for a wide variety of wildlife, playing a significant role in maintaining local biodiversity and ecological balance.
