Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson has been running as a series of novels since 2006, and there are few names in the fantasy space that currently have more buzz around them. The most recent book, The Lost Metal, was released in 2022, and the first entry in Era 3, Ghostbloods, will be coming out in December 2028.
In the meantime, Apple TV is working on adapting the entire Cosmere universe into live-action, with Mistborn receiving the feature film treatment, and a tabletop RPG based on the property is being released this fall. For those interested in a video game adaptation of the fantasy series, though, they'll need to look at Mistborn: Ashes. Mistborn: Ashes is the Cosmere Video Game Everyone Wants

Talk of a Mistborn video game has been taking place since 2012, with "Mistborn: Birthright" having been slated for a 2013 release. This never came to be, though, despite Brandon Sanderson's direct involvement with the Little Orbit project and, since then, the only relevance Mistborn has had in the medium was when it crossed over with Fortnite in 2021. Sanderson is reportedly in talks to make a game happen, but no details have been given.
However, 2021 also saw the release of the debut trailer for Mistborn: Ashes. While not an official project with Sanderson's involvement, this fan project by Soulforge games aimed to answer the question, "What if Mistborn had its own AAA game?"
The minute-and-a-half trailer looks phenomenal, fully bringing the characters and world of Mistborn to life in exactly the way fans have dreamed of for decades. At the time of writing, it currently has just under 296,000 views on YouTube.
Sadly, Mistborn: Ashes was never meant to be a real game made by Soulforge. Rather, it was designed as a proof-of-concept to sell the idea of what a Cosmere game could be.
In Soulforge's vision, the game would have starred series protagonist Vin, who would embark on an adventure across the capital city of the Final Empire, Luthadel. It would be a third-person, "open-world lite" stealth action-adventure game, set during the events of the first book in the series, The Final Empire.
Combat would involve active and passive Allomantic powers, players would be able to choose between engaging in fights or utilizing stealth, and heists, extensive conversations with NPCs, and dynamic AI were all envisioned as parts of the experience.
The project was made in both Unreal Engine 4, although it was always the idea that the real game, if made, would be produced in Unreal Engine 5. Soulforge's team included creative director Adrián Fuentes, art director Raúl Rosell, many individual artists, and composer/sound designer Sergio Fuentes.
Sadly, Mistborn: Ashes is very clearly never getting made. No announcements or updates have been made or given in years, there's no indication from Soulforge's website or social media that any type of progress is being made and, as already mentioned, Sanderson is in talks himself to finally deliver his fans a AAA Mistborn video game.
