SadaNews - Today, the Governor of the Monetary Authority, Yahya Shanar, met with Melinda Good, the Director of the World Bank Mission in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in the presence of Deputy Governor Muhammad Mnasra and several officials from both sides.
The governor congratulated Melinda on assuming her new position, wishing her success and efficiency in her duties, and expressing his eagerness to enhance the existing cooperation and partnership between the Monetary Authority and the World Bank in the upcoming phase.
During the meeting, the governor reviewed the state of the Palestinian banking sector, highlighting the significant challenges and risks it faces under current conditions, as well as the efforts made by the Monetary Authority to maintain the safety and stability of the banking and financial system, ensuring the continued provision of banking and financial services to citizens and economic sectors.
The governor also affirmed Palestine's readiness to complete the evaluation process by the Financial Action Task Force for the Middle East and North Africa (MENAFATF), pointing to the efforts made by national authorities in strengthening the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing framework, and adhering to relevant international standards.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation in areas of mutual interest, supporting the Palestinian financial sector and developing its capabilities, contributing to the growth of the banking sector and strengthening its ability to face current challenges.
For her part, Melinda Good expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the Monetary Authority in maintaining the stability of the banking and financial sector, confirming the World Bank's commitment to continue cooperation and partnership with the Monetary Authority.
