The evolution of Malaspina College to Vancouver Island University will be explored during a presentation at Bowen Park in Nanaimo.
In a press release, Nanaimo Historical Society said Steve Wood, a VIU student completing a bachelor of arts honours degree in history, will give the Vancouver Island University: Stories of the Early Days presentation at Bowen Park complex on Thursday, Sept. 10 beginning at 7 p.m.
Wood interviewed staff and faculty from the early days of the post-secondary institution as part of a history project and will talk about 'the process of undertaking a history project of this scale,' giving a sense of the trials and tribulations of using oral history to reveal more about the past, according to the press release.
A native of Scotland, Wood has a background in the Royal Air Force and Merchant Navy with a particular interest in exploring 'the history of his adopted homeland.'
There is no admission fee and it is open to all.
Bowen Park community centre complex is located at 500 Bowen Rd.
