Myanmar Man Stabbed to Death After Drunken Argument at Workers' Camp Near Pattaya; Police Officer Cut by Suspect During Arrest

Police Lt. Col. Yongyut Wan-nuea, deputy superintendent of investigation at Banglamung Police Station, received the report at 3:30 p.m. on September 7th, 2026. The incident occurred inside a workers' camp near Rojana Industrial Estate in Takhian Tia. Officers from the investigation unit, patrol police and rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan foundation in Pattaya rushed to the scene. They found a Myanmar man, estimated to be 30 to 40 years old, lying in a pool of blood with faint breathing. He had been stabbed once in the center of the face, once under the left armpit, and slashed on the left arm, leaving a gaping wound. Rescue workers performed CPR and first aid before rushing him to Pattaya Pathamakun Hospital. The suspect, identified as Ngern, 41, a Myanmar national, was still at the scene. Heavily intoxicated and in a rage, he refused to put down the knife he continued to hold. Police surrounded him and spent more than 30 minutes trying to talk him into surrendering. He instead challenged officers to shoot him. When he briefly lowered his guard, officers charged. During the struggle, Lt. Col. Yongyut was cut on the right arm and suffered a minor injury. Police seized a 30-centimeter kitchen knife and took the suspect into custody at Banglamung Police Station. The fight took place inside a converted shipping container used as living quarters. The room showed clear signs of a struggle, with blood splattered throughout. Two bottles of white liquor and leftover food sat in the middle of the floor. Initial inquiries indicated the victim was a worker living at the camp. The suspect had recently arrived in the area looking for work at the nearby industrial estate and was not yet employed. The two men had been drinking together in the room when an argument broke out. The victim fled the container and collapsed in front of a bathroom. Coworkers tried to help him and called police. The suspect was too drunk to run far. Doctors at the hospital were unable to save the victim. The knife had severed the root of his heart, and he died from his wounds. At the police station the suspect remained heavily intoxicated and spoke incoherently. In a preliminary statement he claimed they had been drinking when an argument started and the other man struck him on the left eyebrow with a hard object, splitting the skin. Enraged, he grabbed the knife and stabbed back. Police said they have not accepted the account at face value and are continuing their investigation to establish the full circumstances of the killing.
