Bicyclist Killed After Being Hit on Harrison Rd in Salinas, CA

Salinas, CA (September 8, 2026) – A 23-year-old bicyclist died Sunday night after falling into the roadway and being struck by a pickup truck on Harrison Rd in Salinas. The crash was reported around 8:12 p.m. south of Sala Rd. According to the California Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was traveling south when he lost control and fell into the roadway for an unknown reason. A 54-year-old man was driving a GMC pickup southbound when he hit the bicyclist. The driver remained at the site and cooperated with investigators. Life-saving efforts were performed, but the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The Monterey County Coroner's Office identified him as Frank Joseph Mathura of Salinas. CHP said the pickup driver was not under the influence. It remained unclear whether the bicyclist was impaired. An initial report indicated that two additional vehicles had hit him, but further investigation ruled out those reports. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
