Darius Slayton's next stop could look suspiciously familiar to Giants fans

Apparently, Darius Slayton's phone didn't need much time to start ringing after his release. Less than 24 hours after the New York Giants surprisingly cut their longest-tenured player, it sounds like the 29-year-old wide receiver already has a few teams sniffing around the old 'we should take a flyer on him' well. And seeing how Slayton reportedly plans to take his time and see how the beginning of the season unfolds before making a decision, things could get interesting pretty quickly. According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, Slayton has already heard from three potential suitors since Big Blue kicked him to the curb on Monday: "Three teams reached out quickly for preliminary conversations subsequent to the announcement from his former team, a league source told the Exhibit News Network." Darius Slayton has some intriguing potential landing spots after Giants release I won't speculate about who those three mystery teams are. I will, however, point out that there are a few places where Slayt showing up would make a considerable amount of sense. Let's start with the Tennessee Giants -- err, Titans. Former Giants head coach turned Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is now running the offense in Tennessee, where Wan'Dale Robinson, Daniel Bellinger, Austin Schlottmann, and Cor'Dale Flott have already followed him. Slayton spent four seasons playing under Daboll, so adding another familiar face to the collection wouldn't exactly be shocking and might make sense, given his familiarity with his system. Indianapolis also has an obvious connection. Anderson specifically mentioned the Colts as a team worth monitoring if a need arises, largely because Daniel Jones spent five seasons throwing Slayton the football when he was quarterbacking the G-Men. The Colts recently added veteran wideout Keenan Allen, whose status could be murkier than they'd like following a DUI arrest. Still, the former Auburn standout could give Indy another veteran option alongside him. He'd have to beat out the likes of Laquon Treadwell, Ashton Dulin, and Deion Burks for a spot, although Anderson reported that the Colts currently like what they've seen from Burks. Houston deserves a mention, too. The Texans were floated as a potential Slayton trade destination before acquiring Kayshon Boutte from New England. Houston's interest might've disappeared after the Boutte trade, but maybe Slayton now being available for nothing changes the conversation. And speaking of New England, the NY-to-NE turnpike is seemingly always open for business. The Patriots recently claimed linebacker Darius Muasau and signed offensive lineman Greg Van Roten. They stole backup QB Tommy DeVito last offseason and gave him a jail-worthy nickname. And former Giants defensive lineman Cory Durden is hanging around there, too. They also conveniently created another opening in the receiver room by sending Boutte to Houston. Kansas City is my dark horse. Patrick Mahomes should have weapons being thrown at him every offseason like he's playing wide receiver Pokémon. Give the man everybody. Slayton would add another somewhat reliable (sometimes) target as Mahomes chases a fourth Super Bowl. For now, Slayton doesn't seem to be in a rush. Anderson reported that he plans to let the beginning of the season play out while looking for somewhere he can stick beyond 2026.
