Sidney Crosby not in a rush to sign new contract with Penguins

One of the greatest players of all time is giving an update on his future When speaking to reporters at the NHL Player Media Tour in Las Vegas, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was asked about his future contract with the team, or lack thereof. Crosby is heading into the final season of a two-year contract extension, which he signed almost two years ago today. He stated that his agent, Pat Brisson, is in active conversations with Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas, adding that it's tough to gauge his future in the game, given what stage No. 87 is at in his career. 'It's just a little bit more difficult, I think, at my age, as far as trying to project where you're going to be,' Crosby said. 'It's different. You don't know where you're going to be at, kind of year to year, how you feel, and things like that. I'd like to continue playing for a number of years. I just don't know what that number is. And I guess your mind and body tell you that eventually. And right now, I feel pretty good, though.' Even at 39 years young, Crosby is still one of the biggest stars in the NHL today, and he continues to play as such. Even though he missed time due to injury during the 2025-26 season, the Cole Harbour, N.S. native managed to post 74 points in 68 games, helping the Penguins finish second in the Metropolitan Division. It also made Crosby the first player in NHL history to average a point per game in 21 consecutive seasons. Even though he continues to produce, having reached 90 points in each of the previous three seasons, Crosby isn't sure whether a multi-year contract is in his future, or if he's going to take things year-by-year. 'That's something Pat's going to talk to Kyle about. But that's not something that I'm set on either way, to be honest with you.' The three-time Stanley Cup champion also stated that he isn't in any hurry to get a deal done. 'No, I wouldn't say I'm going to rush.' Regarding a potential timeline for signing his next contract, Crosby mentioned that his current deal was done prior to training camp getting underway, but he isn't putting any schedule on this contract being finalized. 'Yeah, I don't know. They're going to talk. Two summers ago, ended up getting done. So we'll see. I don't think there's a timeline on it. They're just gonna talk.'
