Trevon Diggs' Signing Could End Up Paying Huge Dividends for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks don't have many roster holes. That's to be expected considering the team just won the Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean the roster is perfect. For example, the team clearly isn't totally satisfied with its depth in the secondary. We know this because they added both Trevon Diggs and Terrion Arnold late in the summer. Arnold is on the exempt list, while Diggs was one of the team's final cuts and is currently on the practice squad. If Diggs is on the practice squad, that must mean he was unimpressive, and the team isn't relying on him, right? Well, not necessarily. Diggs could still end up playing a crucial role for the team in 2026. On paper, the Seahawks are set in the secondary, even after losing two starters this offseason. Josh Jobe and Devon Witherspoon are an awesome starting corner duo, while Nick Emmanwori, Ty Okada, and Julian Love are great at the nickel and safety spots, respectively. However, the depth just isn't there. The Seahawks only kept three safeties and five corners on the initial roster, so one injury is all it would take to make Diggs an important piece. Diggs played well in the preseason. The veteran picked up an interception in the preseason finale and definitely played well enough to earn a spot. The Seahawks' decision to cut the veteran was more of a procedural move than anything. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently identified some late additions who could make a difference in the postseason. Naturally, Knox picked Diggs and the Seahawks. 'Before suffering a torn ACL in 2023, Diggs was a Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowler and one of the biggest turnover threats in the league,' Knox said. 'He hasn't played particularly well since the injury, but he showed glimpses of his previous form by snagging an interception during Seattle's preseason.' As Knox said, Diggs hasn't exactly been great recently, but he's shown flashes of being a solid player still. Plus, Diggs has plenty of starting experience, and we know he's capable of playing at a high level. 'The Seahawks' hopes of returning to the Super Bowl won't hinge on Diggs' contributions. However, Seattle has to feel confident about having a potential difference-maker waiting in the wings at one of the game's most important positions,' Knox added. It will be interesting to see when Diggs gets brought up to the main roster. Clearly, the Seahawks think he still has something to give.
