SoFi Technologies (SOFI) stock has declined 30% so far in 2026, despite the fintech company reporting better-than-expected Q2 results. The company's member base continued to reflect strength and grew 35% year-over-year to 15.8 million in Q2 2026. However, investors were disappointed when SoFi raised its full-year revenue guidance while keeping its earnings outlook intact as the company continues to make growth investments.
Also, some analysts are concerned about SOFI stock's valuation and its reliance on the lending business, which makes it more vulnerable to credit risk. Currently, Wall Street has a cautious stance on SOFI stock amid macro uncertainty. The average SOFI stock price target indicates 13% upside potential.
Analysts' Views on SOFI Stock
Recently, in a research note on digital banking and the opportunities for neobanks, Wells Fargo analyst Donald Fandetti reiterated a Hold rating on SOFI stock with a price target of $17. The 5-star analyst highlighted that SoFi's Q2 2026 deposits grew 54% year-over-year to about $46 billion.
Fandetti believes that SoFi has a strong tech and digital franchise and views it as one of the 'long-term winners in the convergence of tech & financial services/pymts.' However, he remains on the sidelines, citing SOFI stock's valuation and dependence on loan-sale earnings, especially amid a more volatile macro backdrop.
In contrast, Scotiabank analyst Lance Jessurun initiated coverage on SoFi Technologies last week with a Buy rating and a price target of $25. The analyst believes that SoFi is increasingly becoming more than just a consumer lender, with Q2 results showing faster member growth, deeper product adoption, a larger deposit base, and rising fee revenue. Notably, members grew 35% while products increased 42% in Q2 2026, with existing members driving more than half of new product additions.
Jessurun added that SoFi's loan platform business is a vital growth engine, allowing the company to monetize originations and underwriting without keeping every loan on its balance sheet. 'Credit, funding costs, regulation, and valuation still matter, but we believe member growth, deposit funding, cross-buy, and capital-light revenue support estimates above consensus over time,' contends the analyst.
Is SOFI Stock a Good Buy Now?
Analysts are currently divided on SOFI stock. While bulls highlight the company's rapid growth, solid execution, and expanding member base, other analysts remain concerned about its valuation and reliance on the lending business.
Overall, Wall Street has a Hold consensus rating on SOFI stock based on seven Buys, six Holds, and three Sells. The average SOFI stock price target of $20.57 implies about 13% upside potential.
