Kid Cudi shares 'crazy' story of Kanye West's hook rejected by Jay-Z Kid Cudi recently reminisced about the time when Jay-Z rejected the Hook that ultimately became Kanye West's Welcome to Heartbreak. During the latest episode of his Big Bro with Kid Cudi podcast, the 42-year-old American rapper reflected on how they created Welcome to Heartbreak with his guest Hit-Boy. Cudi shared, "You know what's crazy about 'Heartbreak'? Plain Pat had made that beat with Kanye and we had an idea for it that was for Jay," and went on to sing a part of the hook, "Cooking up in the kitchen/Young boy had that vision/Had to get with it." 'And it ws the one joint that Hov didn't f***** with out of all the pack that we gave him … So, when we were working on 808s [& Heartbreak], Ye was like, 'Yo, Hov didn't take this. We should change the hook up or whatever.' And that's when I came up with the new hook,' he stated. Notably, this is not the first time the Pursuit of Happiness hitmaker has discussed it during a 2016 episode of Scott Vener and Pharrell Williams' Beats 1 Radio show OTHERtone. He told them the songs came from The Blueprint 3' session. "We were like, 'Oh, it's for Jay, let's talk about that dope boy shit, let's make a theme for that dope boy in the kitchen," he said, revealing that the songs came from The Blueprint 3's sessions. It is pertinent to mention that Kid Cudi's hook in Kanye West's song was never released.
