Warriors, Vipers fall in football

OXFORD — Once the severe weather finally allowed for kickoff, the J.F. Webb football team was defeated by Bunn at home Friday 49-22. Both teams' records went to 1-2 with the result. D.J. Smith led 4A Bunn, of the Quad County Conference, with four total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing, one receiving) in addition to forcing a fumble and snagging an interception. Alijah Kinton led Webb on the ground with 91 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns while adding a 79-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Daniel Wright. Wright threw for 136 yards and rushed for 63. Defensively, Zion Thornton led the Warriors with 13 tackles. Webb travels to 4A Eden Morehead (1-2) on Friday. JORDAN 42, VANCE COUNTY 6 Vance County dropped to 0-3 on the season in the Vipers' third consecutive Thursday game to start the season, due to the threat of severe weather each Friday the last few weeks. Jordan's 42-6 win at home in Durham improved the 8A Falcons' record to 2-1. Running back Harry Cheek turned in another solid statistical performance for Vance County with 94 rushing yards and Vance County's lone touchdown score. The Vipers will head to 5A Rocky Mount (2-1) of the Big East Conference on Friday. The Gryphons have a loss to Tarboro and wins over East Wake and Nash Central. EAGLES BACK IN ACTION After wins over Vance County and Webb to start the season, Warren County (2-0) returns from its bye week with a trip on Friday to 5A South Granville of the Big Seven Conference. Last time out, the Vikings (2-1) fell at home to Franklinton and previously posted wins over Bunn and Vance County.
