Ogun State Police Command has deployed its School Protection Squad to primary and secondary schools across the state ahead September 14 resumption date.
This directive was inline with the strategic policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, on proactive, preventive and community-oriented policing in states.
According to a statement by the Police Spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the deployment was to boost police presence around schools to ensure security of pupils, teachers and infrastructure.
The State Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this, when he recently received an executive delegation of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Safe School Club, led by the State Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Babatunde Lawal, at the Command Headquarters, Abeokuta.

The CP added that the deployment would of the school protection squad would also enable to the police to gather actionable intelligence and ensuring swift response to emerging security threats.
He said that the initiative would also create an engagement between the police and the school authorities as well as parents, students and community stakeholders for the early identification, reporting and prevention of security threats within and around schools.
Ojajuni commended the initiative and charged the squad to remain vigilant, maintain close engagement with school communities and respond promptly to credible security information.
He reiterated that the Command remains committed to anticipating threats, preventing incidents and providing swift protective intervention, while urging school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents, students and the public to remain vigilant.

The CP urged members of the public to : SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. Do not ignore suspicious persons, vehicles, movements or activities around any school. Report immediately, early information can prevent an incident.
He assured residents that the School Protection Squad, in partnership with the PCRC and other stakeholders, remains fully prepared to protect schools, prevent threats and respond swiftly to emergencies across the State.
