. A mine worker was killed after being trapped under a large slab of salt at a mine in Wandha Kakkar Wala, Kalabagh on Sunday. Local sources said Zamin Abbas was working at Salt Mine 20 when a large slab of salt reportedly fell on him as miners were leaving the mine after completing their work. He was pulled out in an injured condition but reportedly remained without an ambulance for a considerable period. When an ambulance could not be arranged, the injured worker was being transported to hospital on a tractor. However, he died on the way, according to the sources. An ambulance provided by the Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) reportedly arrived later and transported the body to his home. Local social worker Junaid Khan alleged that safety arrangements at the mine were inadequate and questioned why mining operations had been allowed to continue if the site had previously been closed on safety grounds. PMD Labour Wing Mianwali district president Gul Muhammad Arain also criticised the alleged lack of safety measures, saying workers were being exposed to serious risks.
