Two Dogs Escape Safely as Fire Damages Northeast Medford Home

MEDFORD, Ore. (Sep. 7, 2026) — Firefighters responded to an early morning garage fire at a single-family home in northeast Medford on Monday, with two residents transported for medical evaluation, authorities said. Crews were dispatched to the 3000 block of Blackthorn Drive at about 2:35 a.m. and arrived to find an active fire in the garage. Firefighters, assisted by Jackson County Fire District 3, quickly began an exterior attack and brought the fire under control. The fire minimally extended into the living area of the home. Fire officials reported some smoke staining in the kitchen and front living area, but said interior damage to the residence was minimal. Both residents were transported for evaluation. One resident experienced minor smoke inhalation, according to firefighters. Two dogs inside the home also safely escaped the fire. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters reminded residents that working smoke alarms can provide critical early warning during a fire. Residents are encouraged to test smoke alarms regularly and replace batteries or alarms as needed.
