Man charged with felonies after alleged damage to Flock cameras in Derby

A Derby man has been charged with two felonies after being accused of damaging Flock cameras in the city last month. According to documents filed by the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office, Zachary Miller was charged Friday after authorities said he damaged or destroyed Flock cameras in Derby, including equipment operated by the homeowner's association for the Huckleberry Estates community. The damage, according to the charging documents, happened Aug. 24 and Aug. 25. The alleged crimes are felonies because the equipment in each instance is valued at between $1,000 and $25,000. Flock cameras, a nationwide network of cameras that record license plates and other characteristics of passing vehicles, have become popular with law enforcement agencies and others in recent years, though civil liberties groups have raised privacy concerns. Use of the cameras has become a hot-button issue in areas across the country this year.
