ISLAMABAD: Barrister Salman Safdar met PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail on Monday for legal consultations after months without access to either of them. The meeting, arranged by jail authorities at 4:30pm, lasted around 40 minutes. Safdar said it was his first meeting with Imran in seven months and with Bushra in 11 months. He said the available time was insufficient to discuss all pending cases and legal matters. During the meeting, Imran and Bushra briefed him about their health and prison conditions and also conveyed fresh instructions regarding ongoing legal proceedings. Safdar did not disclose details of the legal directions given by the two. PTI has repeatedly demanded regular access for Imran's family members, friends and legal team while he remains incarcerated. The Islamabad High Court had earlier directed jail authorities to ensure meaningful human interaction, family access, exercise, reading material and other facilities for Imran and Bushra. The Supreme Court had also ordered weekly family meetings and directed that Imran be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for treatment. The Islamabad High Court had separately instructed authorities in June to facilitate a meeting between Imran, Bushra and their counsel to complete legal formalities connected with appeals against their convictions. Safdar last met Imran on April 9 for legal consultation. Imran has remained in custody since August 2023 and is serving sentences in multiple cases, while also facing pending trials related to the May 9, 2023 protests.
