Four-star outfielder Trinity Onigbanjo commits to South Carolina softball

Four-star class of 2028 outfielder Trinity Onigbanjo knew when she looked over and saw her mom in tears during Sandstorm at South Carolina's football game on Saturday that she was where she wanted to be. Onigbanjo, on her official visit with Ashley Chastain Woodard's softball program at the time, would announce her commitment to the Gamecocks on social media the very next day, becoming the second public pledge in the class. 'I chose South Carolina because from the very first conversation, I could tell their coaching staff truly knew me,' Onigbanjo told GamecockCentral. 'They brought up something I did when I was in eighth grade, and that stuck with me because it showed they weren't just recruiting the player I am right now—they had really watched my journey. 'Every time I was at South Carolina, I felt at home. The coaches are incredible and genuinely pour into their players, and when you have coaches who believe in you and care about you like that, there's nothing you wouldn't do for them. IMG Academy standout is ranked the No. 58 overall prospect and No. 9 outfielder in the class, according to Softball America/On3. 'Onigbanjo is a high-ceiling prospect with a strong bat,' Softball America's Brady Vernon said. 'She is a well-rounded athlete with gap-to-gap speed and good angles to the ball in the outfield. She has a clean arm with above-average arm strength and is deceptive offensively, as she can bunt and swing for power from the left side.' Onigbanjo is one of seven highly regarded 2028 recruiting targets who visited South Carolina over the weekend. Three of those prospects have committed to South Carolina as of Monday afternoon, with Atlanta (Ga.) Wesleyan School four-star catcher Siena Myers also going public with her commitment on Sunday.
