Govt Delays Approval of Major Policies Including Autos, Batteries, and Solar

The federal government has yet to approve proposed policies for automobiles, batteries, electronics, solar manufacturing and energy storage, delaying their implementation, according to a Ministry of Industries and Production document. The policies are aimed at strengthening local manufacturing, promoting industrial growth and reducing dependence on imported products. However, work on putting them into effect has not started because they are still awaiting approval from the relevant authority. The Engineering Development Board (EDB), an attached department of the Ministry of Industries and Production, prepared the initial policy drafts. The proposals were developed after discussions with manufacturers, industry associations, investors, technology specialists and other stakeholders. Several consultation meetings were held to gather industry feedback, identify key challenges and determine measures needed to support these sectors. Once the policies are approved, the EDB will oversee their implementation and monitor progress. It will also review the policies periodically to assess their effectiveness and make changes where necessary. The proposed frameworks include targets related to local production, exports, technology transfer, job creation and reducing reliance on imports. The government is still assessing these targets.
