The district administration, Education Department and Rural Community Development Council briefed students and teachers on tsunami warning signs, evacuation routes and safety measures for coastal communities. GWADAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Nov, 2026) An awareness session on tsunami preparedness and safety measures was held at Government Girls High School Gwadar on the occasion of World Tsunami Awareness Day. The event was jointly organised by the district administration, the Education Department and the Rural Community Development Council (RCDC) to educate students and teachers about tsunami risks and emergency response procedures. District Education Officer Wahab Majeed, RCDC District Programme Officer Abdullah Usman and RCDC Senior Joint Secretary Niaz Ibrahim addressed the participants, highlighting potential tsunami hazards, natural warning signs, timely evacuation procedures and essential precautions to protect human lives during emergencies. The speakers stressed that awareness of tsunami-related risks is particularly important for communities living along the coastal belt of Balochistan, including Gwadar. Participants were informed that an abnormal retreat of seawater from the shoreline or sudden changes in sea level should be treated as serious warning signs. In such situations, residents should not wait for an official announcement but should immediately move away from coastal areas to higher and safer ground. The session also emphasised the importance of identifying evacuation routes in advance, developing emergency response plans, maintaining communication procedures for family members and preparing essential emergency supplies. The speakers noted that adherence to official instructions and organised evacuation can play a vital role in saving lives during natural disasters. They further advised that people should stay away from beaches, harbours and low-lying coastal areas during tsunami events and remain in safe locations until authorities declare the threat completely over. Addressing the gathering, the speakers said awareness programmes in educational institutions help equip students and teachers with the knowledge and skills required to respond effectively to natural disasters. Such initiatives also contribute to spreading awareness among families and wider coastal communities. They underscored that timely awareness, recognition of natural warning signs and prompt, organised evacuation are the most effective measures for minimising tsunami-related losses, adding that informed decision-making during emergencies can save precious human lives. During the session, participants were also shown an informational documentary on tsunami hazards, warning signs, safety precautions and safe evacuation procedures. The documentary provided practical guidance on disaster preparedness and reinforced public awareness about measures necessary for the protection of human life in the event of a tsunami.
