Logan County Jail updates mail system to curb contraband

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Logan County Sheriff's Office has shared an update regarding its mailing system in the Logan County Jail in an effort to keep contraband out, starting this Tuesday. This update will affect people looking to send documents, photos and mail to inmates. The jail now uses the Inmate Messaging system on NCIC, which can be viewed here. 'Friends and families of inmates can visit www.NCIC.com and set up an account. You can then easily send messages to an inmate for instant delivery. You can also take a picture of any documents and attach [them] to those messages. Messages are only 25 cents per message and Picture Messages / Documents are only 35 cents each. This is much cheaper than postage, envelopes, and the time it takes to mail a letter, and the inmate will receive the message and / or picture instantly. There will be no limits on how many messages and photos can be sent,' wrote the Logan Co. SO. Now, from Tuesday, Sept. 8 onward, all physical mail must be sent to the following address, and all existing Logan County Jail mail rules still apply: Inmate Name Inmate Number Logan County Jail, Ohio PO BOX 591 Longview, Texas 75606 'Any mail that is sent to PO Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606 for processing will NOT be returned or released. Once the mail is processed and received electronically by the inmate, it will be destroyed. This includes pictures or anything else mailed to the processing facility. By sending the mail to PO Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606, you agree to the items being destroyed and understand that anything you mail to PO Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606 will not be returned or reimbursed for,' wrote the LCSO. Physical mail should be sent following these rules, per officials: All envelopes / mail must include the inmate name, Sheriff's Office 'Inmate Number' and a return address. The only mail accepted must be eight and a half inches wide by eleven inches tall. The mail sent CAN'T be more than five pages long. If it is longer, it will not be sent to the inmate and will be returned to the sender. Do not write on the backside of the paper; only the front side is entered into the system / sent to the inmate. There is a maximum of one photo per mailing. If more than one photo is sent, the entire letter and all its contents will be returned to the sender / nothing will be scanned in or delivered. For anyone needing to send mail on legal / medical matters, the Legal Mail Address is as follows: Logan County Jail 284 County Rd 32 S, Bellefontaine, OH 43311 'No magazines, bulk mailing, newspapers or books will be accepted at PO Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606 and will be returned to sender. These items must be sent to the facility where the inmate is housed following the Logan County Jail Mail Guidelines,' wrote the LCSO. 'Once the mail is received for processing it will be scanned in at the central processing location and then will be sent to the inmate electronically via the same messaging system referenced above and the inmate can then view it on the inmate kiosks and tablets.' 2 NEWS is working to learn more.
