GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — Pool season is coming to a close in Central Illinois, and the owners of the Gibson City Pool are looking back at their final season before the new pool opens.
They said hundreds of people bought passes throughout the summer. The season was cut short as the pool had to close before Labor Day, with high school-age staff returning to the classroom.
They hope that next year, they can extend the season at the new pool.
'Gibson City is building a new pool. Super cool,' said Assistant Pool Manager Rachel Dewey. 'We're going to open up probably in May and we'll have a longer season. Hopefully we can be open till Labor Day.'
Dewey said construction crews will demolish the old pool in the next few weeks, and the site will be turned into a parking lot. The new pool will be heated and include a diving pool, a slide and a zero-entry area.
